Families with children looking to attend preschool and private school (e.g., the Mount Horeb Christian School)
Students pursuing technical training and college
Adults pursuing additional training

Purpose

New Hope Evangelical Free Church (New Hope), as part of its charitable mission, has established a designated scholarship fund to support participation in educational programs for qualified applicants of all ages and levels of education. Educational program means any program that is principally engaged in the provision of education, including, but not limited to, early childhood education, elementary and secondary education, postsecondary education, special education, job training, career and technical education, and adult education.

Eligibility

Applicants must have some connection with New Hope Evangelical Free Church. This includes members, regular attenders, participants in ministry activities, and people they are associated with. This also includes applicants pursuing a scholarship to participate in a New Hope affiliated preschool, primary, secondary, post-secondary, seminary, or other educational program.
Educational materials that are not part of an educational program, such as how-to-books, homeschool curriculum, supplies, and self-study guides are not eligible. Homeschool cooperatives may qualify.
Each award recipient is required to submit a grade report, or proof of completion for the period for which the scholarship is awarded. This report will be considered if the recipient applies for the scholarship again in the future.
Applicants must be in good standing with New Hope Evangelical Free Church.

Eligible applicants will be selected by New Hope with preference given to:

personal connection and involvement in New Hope
educational purpose’s connection to New Hope
Christian purpose of the educational program
financial need

Application Process:

To be considered, candidates must submit a completed application to New Hope Evangelical Free Church. Applications are evaluated on a periodic basis and should typically be submitted at least 2-3 months prior to the start of the educational program (i.e., by 6/1 for an educational program starting in the fall). Ad hoc or accelerated evaluation of applications will be considered by request.

The scholarship selection committee, initially comprised of the New Hope elder board, shall make the selection of each scholarship recipient and award amount, and forward the notice to the treasurer for fund disbursement. The scholarship disbursement shall be made directly to the educational institution for the benefit of the scholarship recipient. The scholarship must be used for the awarded educational purpose within one year.

Yes. We consider requests for ad hoc or accelerated evaluation of applications, just let us know about your timelines when you submit a completed application.

Q: What if I don’t know the specific educational program right now or if it changes?

No problem. Fill out the application describing your situation and keep the scholarship committee informed as your plans change. Since the educational program is one of the factors in the scholarship process, changes in your plans may impact your scholarship; however, we can work out the details as you know more.

Q: Are scholarships only for Christian schools and programs?

No. Scholarships are available for any qualified educational program. The Christian purpose of the educational program is one of the criteria used to determine scholarship amounts and recipients.

Q: Is financial need required to be eligible for a scholarship?

No. Part of scholarship’s purpose is to support families and students pursuing education regardless of need; however, financial need is one of the criteria used to determine scholarship amounts and recipients. Fictional example, a qualified student without financial need may receive a 5% scholarship for preschool, while a similar student who can only afford to pay 75% of tuition may receive a 25% scholarship to the same program.

Q: How much is available for scholarships? Where does the money come from?

The amount available varies over time depending on donations, scholarship grants, and applications. Scholarship availability is impacted by available funds and since the fund has an ongoing purpose of supporting families and students there is no requirement to distribute all remaining funds at any given time. The scholarship fund is a separate designated fund that is supported primarily by designated donations to the fund.

Q: Why is this effort separate from the benevolence fund?

The New Hope benevolence fund is focused on specific needs and assistance across a broad range of purposes and has implicitly had some aspect of need involved. While some requests for tuition and educational assistance overlap, many do not so a separate fund was created.
